Antique Sterling Silver Glove Darner

 American * Circa 1890s

This little double ended darner has different shaped wooden 'eggs' at each end for darning glove fingers. It is solid sterling silver (marked) and the maroon color of the darning eggs is quite unusual.

The condition of the silver is excellent without even a ding and it measures 4 1/2" long. The ends of the wooden eggs have a little wear but are also in great condition. An all-silver glove darner from this era is shown on p. 223 of Gay Ann Rogers' book An Illustrated History of Needlework Tools.
