Arcadia ProT5 ShadeDweller Max 2.5% UVB Kit 14 Watt
is the latest development in the ShadeDweller range. A brand new 14 watt 22”/55cm full spectrum + UV-B lamp and ProT5 kit.
The ultimate UV lighting system for the modern snake keeper. And also for some lizards and amphibians that live in larger enclosures and also climb there.
ProT5 is a highly adaptable lighting kit with high quality internal electronics, a highly effective but removable reflector, power cord, lighting kit, freewheel cable and a selection of Arcadia Reptile T5 UV-B lamps. ProT5 uses the best electrical components to ensure safe operation and long lamp life. Each lighting has built-in over-voltage, over-current, over-heating and short-circuit protection. ProT5 is Teflon-free and free of reflector coatings that absorb UV rays.
One area of reptile husbandry that has been greatly neglected is the proper provision of UV light for snakes, and particularly those living in larger, more naturalistic or more bioactive enclosures.
The ShadeDweller 8 watts works well for smaller snake species but it became clear very quickly that the most commonly kept snakes 90cm long or larger specimens benefit more from a wider exposure (covering the body).
The ShadeDweller Max is longer and also more robust. The lighting area (projection zone) is enlarged, so the snakes can have good photo and heat regulation. You gain access to full color vision and the ability to self-regulate D3 levels. This allows the snakes to move naturally and find areas of energy to utilize without the risk of exposure to higher levels of UV. ShadeDweller Max was developed by experts to maintain optimal UV values. It is the perfect lamp for the most common vivarium sizes, e.g. 120cmx60cmx60cm and larger.
ShadeDweller Max is the perfect choice for species where an environment has been created that allows for self-regulated basking but also presents a very low risk of overexposure as the snake moves around the enclosure (temporary exposure). We all know that most snakes like to climb and we should allow this wherever possible.
ShadeDweller Max is suitable for use with Arcadia Reptile LampGuardPro, the easy to use UV lamp cage/protector. She is completely included in the ShadeDweller Max ProT5 lamp delivered, which, as always, is easy to connect to other ProT5 lights and the JungleDawn LED strip enabled.
ShadeDweller-Max is a SO-T5 lamp and like all Arcadia Reptile lamps has a full 12 month UV potency when used up to 12 hours a day and with an Arcadia Reptile socket. Using the latest German lamp technology, we have developed another brand new lamp for reptiles in SO-T5 that uses only 14 watts but is more than twice as bright as our 8 watt ShadeDweller lamp. This increase in brightness or “lumen output” covers the entire Spektrum of the lamp, even UV.
To achieve the UVI target of 1.00-1.50 at a distance of 12”/30cm from the basking spot, this clever lamp only requires 2.5% UV-B within the lamp’s total spectrum. So if you are wondering why the ShadeDweller 8 Watt lamp has 7% UV-B and ShadeDweller Max only has 2.5% UV-B to achieve a very similar result, then this is your answer → the lamp itself is more powerful overall. In order to achieve the optimal UVI at the target distance, the % value is reduced. However, the resulting UVI is very similar in both cases.
ShadeDweller Max is suitable for use with almost Allen snake species within their own UVI requirements and sunbathing distance.
