DESCRIPTION: The decorative cakeplate was hand painted with sprays of roses nestled in their green leaves. The artist was most talented as this is a well executed painting. The overall quality of the design is quite professional. The roses actually are painted in difference intensity to show depth to the painting. There are also blue, green and yellow ghost leaves to give additional depth to the painting. The washes vary from orange to yellow to light blue to green. The gold trim on the rim is very rich looking and accents the smooth rim. The reticulated handles are painted in solid gold paint.
CONDITION: While this decorative cakeplate is classified as used, its condition is superb. There is a very minor scratch in the clear glaze on the front that cannot be seen or felt. There are no chips, nicks, cracks, rubbings, other scratches, crazing or hairlines. The gold shows no wear. Overall, the gold trim is solid & glossy. See the photos.
DIMENSIONS: The decorative cakeplate handle to handle measures 10 5/8" and has a diameter of 9 13/16" and a height of 1 3/8".
HISTORY/MARKS: Remy Delinieres and P. Guery established a pottery in the 1860’s in Limoges, France. Delinieres became head of the company after 1879 and established a porcelain decorating shop in 1881 as part of the factory. In 1900, the company becomes Leon Bernardaud & Co. Leon & his father had worked for Delinieres and eventually purchased the company. Leon Bernardaud’s family continued his company which is still in operation. The mark on this is identified in Mary Frank Gaston's Collector's Encyclopedia of Limoges Porcelain as the green underglaze white ware mark #3 used 1894-1900.
