A horological icon, the Formula 1 has been a cornerstone of the TAG Heuer catalogue since its inception in 1986. Instantly recognisable when being worn, TAG Heuer perfectly incorporated innovative styling with Swiss technology and an attractive price point. There are a handful of models which are highly sought after amongst enthusiasts, and this beautifully sleek ‘night diver’ example is one of them.
This reference WAH1011 has a unique feature which makes it so desirable, it sports an amazing full-face lume with contrasting white and black design that makes it instantly legible. The lume adds another layer of complexity in the design, as it comes into its own in the subtle twilight of dawn and dusk. This was originally a feature on a Heuer 1000 Series back in the 1980’s and can even be seen on the wrist of James Bond in some of the films of that period. More than 30 years after its inception, the ‘Night Diver’ design remains fresh and contemporary, the design for which has been implemented in the current Aquaracer range and retails at £3,550.
This TAG Heuer boasts a bold and contemporary 43mm Stainless Steel case that wears larger than most regular 41mm Formula 1 pieces, hence the ‘XL’ nickname. Within the case itself beats a supremely reliable TAG Heuer signed quartz movement which has a quickset grande date, hack second, and EOL indicator functions. Fixing the watch in place on the wrist is a sandblasted Stainless Steel bracelet which is again larger than most Formula 1 models, in keeping with the bigger case size. It is fastened to the wrist with a double-safety TAG Heuer buckle that offers a micro adjustment for the perfect fit and of course a classic divers extension. There is also a a sapphire crystal glass and 200m water resistance, as such, it’s equally at home in the office, gym or the beach.
As for the condition, it is absolutely excellent as per the photographs. The watch has just been routinely serviced and as such all functions are working perfectly, it was fitted with a new battery and re-sealed. I have checked the timekeeping over 24 hours, and it is within factory limits, all functions are working perfectly. The crown is responsive, the date works as it should, while the clasp fastens securely.
Along with the watch itself comes a TAG Heuer box, an invoice for your purchase and a certificate showing the serial has a clean history on the lost and stolen registries.
