An original and very rare complete copy of the “Souvenir Program of Yosemite’s Annual Indian Field Days” held August 4-5, 1922. This is both the program and small insert “Merchandise Prizes” (separate small piece of paper – 6 ½ x 5”): “The following prizes, donated by well known firms listed below, were awarded during the Field Day celebration.” Useful things of course, like an electric toaster, electric percolator, pair of ice skates and an ash tray.

The booklet (8” x 5”) has separated because the staples that held it together have rusted. It has numerous ads; lists the “Yosemite Amusement Committee” [Don Tresidder was the Announcer, and the Official Photographers were Arthur Pillsbury, J. T. Boysen, Harry C. Best, and D. J. Foley]; each day’s events. 12 pages, not including the cover. Some dark stains mostly in the margins. See scans to get a better idea of condition. [I did offer this first to the National Park Service for the Yosemite Research Library but they already have a copy of the 1922 program.]

BACKGROUND: The Indian Field Days were reportedly held from 1916 to 1929. But perhaps they were not held each year, because the booklet reminds people to “Remember the fourth annual celebration next year – August 3rd and 4th [1923]. “The interest centered on the problems of the fast disappearing Indian race, should rank Yosemite’s effort to preserve their customs as one of national importance.”
