This is a reprint of a hitoyogiri shakuhachi manual from the Edo era, first printed in 1818. The Japanese is translated into English, and commentary is added. The manual discusses how to play the hitoyogiri (a shorter, simpler predecessor to the Edo era Fuke shakuhachi), and contains scores for both classical (pre-Edo) hitoyogiri pieces as well as "contemporary" pieces such as Rokudan. This is a wonderful overall introduction to what the hitoyogiri is, and what can be done with it. You can also learn more at my website at https://www.hon-on.com.
