The modelling is pretty naive as is usually the case with horse brasses.

Horse brasses are an old English tradition that became particularly popular in the 19th Century.  They were originally used on working heavy horses and draught horse's harnesses like Shire horses but they became popular souvenirs, every English village pub had brasses as decorations and many of the traditional ones still do.
