Description

Offered here is an original watercolor illustration painting by listed New York illustrator Margaret Ayer.  Painting is watercolor on paper or paper board and measures ~10 3/4 x 8 3/4 inches (sight).  Painting is signed lower left.  Painting includes wood framing with overall size of 16 1/2 x 14 inches.  This may be be a published work for one of the many books that Ayer illustrated.  I have not done any research.

Artwork is in excellent condition.  Scuffs to frame.

Margaret Ayer (-1981)


Margaret Ayer was born in Brooklyn, New York.  Her father was an Army doctor and she spent her early years in the Philippines and Thailand, with trips to China, Japan, Sumatra, and Europe.  She was educated at the Philadelphia Museum School of Industrial Art, and worked as an author and illustrator of books for young people. She published her first self-illustrated book in 1933 entitled Magic Window.  She illustrated more than 50 books during her career.  Ayer died in 1981.
