Tsuba representing a Crane (Tsuru) in a pond with blooming Sagittaria (Omodaka)  plants.l

In Japan, the crane, or tsuru, is a national treasure and is considered the bird of happiness. It is depicted in art, literature, and mythology as a symbol of good luck and longevity because it is said to live 1,000 years.

The Omodaka is one of the 10 most used family emblems (judaimon) in Japan.

The Omodaka mon was popular among warriors because the arrowhead was also called in Japan kachi-gusa, which literally means "victory plant".

The Omodaka mon has about 220 known variations.
