Fine antique American mahogany folding top game, multi use petite table.
This little table measures 28 1/2" high, 22" wide and 10 1/4" deep. When the top leaf is folded back the top measures 22" by 21 1/2".
The second photo in front of my refrigerator helps to show it's size.
The left rear leg folds out to support the top leaf when folded back.
The front drawer is nearly as wide as the entire width and retains it's original brass pull and original brass nuts on the inside of drawer.
The front of the drawer is of course mahogany and predictably, the interior appears to be yellow pine but the 2 thin sides of the drawer are oak.
The original brass folding hardware between the two leaves is original and in very good condition.
The wood hinge allowing the rear leg to fold out has it's original wood pin through the middle of the hinge.
Note the original little worm holes on the back folding piece. They are not extensive and do not hurt the strength of the back pieces nor are worm holes anywhere else on this table.
Originally there were 3 wood screws holding the top to the base but one of those 3 screws in missing.
Also the original little hand forged nails helping to hold the drawer bottom remain in place.
The finish on all the surfaces appears to be original and in quite good condition with the exception of about 2 dozen small shallow digs in the wood surface on one of the folded out leaves.
The minor nicks and scratches really attest to the reason this table was made; to be used vs shown. And it shows just beautifully these centuries later.
This little table glows with life and it's own utility. The mahogany grain has beautiful fire throughout, especially the top broad surfaces.
The legs are each 5 sided with a detail of a fine double groove from top to bottom at the outside corner. The inside of each leg tapers broader toward the bottom.
Not sure when or where this table was made but appears to be from the NE United States and either the 19th century or possibly the late 18th century.
Would not surprise me to learn this table was made in North or South Carolina or Virginia.
 Capably boxed and shipped.
