Triumph Spitfire MK2 Triumph Spitfire Mk2 1967, this car was extensively restored with no expense spared during 1999-2000, & has been garaged most of the time since.
The body restoration included new heritage bonnet, front valence, floors , inner & outer sills, door skins, rear wings, rear valence boot lid & American rust free screen frame.
The car was painted in its original powder blue.
Since the body restoration, the car has been completely overhauled and improved mechanically, again with no expense spared.
The engine has been replaced with the 1300 small bearing crank engine, that has had a full rebuild, lightened balanced, re bored fast road cam ported & polished cylinder head with larger valves & matched compression ratio, the larger 1&1/2 inch SU carburettors and full tubular SS sports exhaust & manifold, were fitted
In addition Electronic ignition, oil cooler larger radiator have been fitted along with an uprated alternator conversion.
The car has much better performance, but is still economical & extremely reliable.
The gearbox is the last of the 3 rail gearboxes ( early type not the heavier 1500 type) with 4 synchromeshs and the stronger J type overdrive, both the gearbox & overdrive were rebuilt, as was the differential and the propshaft was balanced.
The suspension was all re built with superflex bushes new front vertical links trunnions ball joints & bearings, the rear had new driveshafts UJs bearings etc
The brakes were also replaced and Goodrich flexi hoses fitted.
Fast road springs and adjustable shock absorbers fitted all round, with the later swing spring fitted to the rear & later stiffer front anti roll bar to match.
Light weight front bumpers were a special one off pair made for the car & the heavy rear overriders deleted
The interior was re trimmed….the seats with leather. New wire wheels,hubs , spinners and tyres were fitted after the mechanical work was carried out.
The car has 11 months MOT ( although it is MOT, Tax & ULEZ exempt)
The car has driven between 15 & 20,000 miles since restoration.
