Old North Church
Old North Church is the popular name for Christ Church in Boston, Massachusetts. It is the oldest public building in Boston, a city renowned for its rich history. The first stone was laid for the church on April 15, 1723, and the first service was held there on December 29, 1723. The church’s tower contains the first set of church bells in the American colonies. The bells were cast in 1744.
 
The Old North Church is commonly remembered in history as the place where lanterns were hung to signal Paul Revere that the British were coming-on April 18, 1775. This story was immortalized in the poem, “Paul Revere’s Ride,” by Henry Wadsworth Longfellow.
 
Storms destroyed the Old North Church’s tower in 1804 and again in 1954. The church tower was rebuilt to its original specifications in 1955. The 190-foot-tall slender tower was created in the Georgian style inspired by the architect Christopher Wren.
