Antique 14 Kt Rose Gold Overlay Thimble

H. Muhr's Sons * Circa 1890

This antique thimble has a finely ribbed rim and a smooth band. It is marked with the H. Muhr's Sons crown logo, a lion and 14 in a circle. It also has the size (8). This mark was used by H. Muhr's Sons to indicate a thimble with 14 Kt gold overlay, so thick that they sometimes test as gold. This mark is shown on p. 26 of American Gold Thimbles by the Philadelphia Thimble Society. It is engraved "Nettie to Flora" in Old English lettering.

The condition is excellent with no holes, dents or other damage. H. Muhr's Sons made thimbles from 1885 until they went out of business in 1894.
