Paper Mache Easter Bunny Candy Container. Made in Germany in 1912. Surface of bunny is mottled beige and light brown. Very soft paper --- we believe it may have originally been flocked. Ears are stitched, velvety fabric. Approximately 6" tall. Bottom round is marked 1912 in pencil and was originally waxed in place, but we removed to show the inside of the container. Face details in red ink. Eyes are holes in paper mache. From the red-orange spot between arms, we believe there may have originally been a carrot there. Arms are waxed in place. One is bent across chest (we think to hold the carrot that's no longer there) and has a more obvious wax attachment where it joins the body that may be a repair. This is a very fragile, extraordinary and unique piece. We haven't seen another like it. The original owner was born in 1912, and it was purchased as a decoration for her nursery.
