For sale today is a scarce high grade 1880 Blue Serial $1 United States Note. This is the Fr 35 with Tillman-Morgan signature. This is an exceptionally rare and under-appreciated series with the blue serial numbers. They are far rarer than the 1880 Brown seal with red serials and exponentially rarer than the 1917 series. For comparison, there were only 6.3 million blue serial notes printed, only 4.7 million of those were issued. There were 55.2 million of the brown seal with red serial numbers issued, and a whopping 966 million 1917 notes. So this blue serial 1880 issue is about 10x rarer than the red serial 1880 and 200x rarer than 1917 notes! Yet the prices hardly reflect those numbers. These are surely good sleepers that will soar in value once people realize the true rarity.

This note grades a sharp VF-35 in my opinion, so close to XF. Loaded with crispness and dark, bold colors. Looks as fresh as the day it was printed. Just has some typical folds of a high VF note and a couple pinholes. These are incredibly scarce in high grade, as these notes were true workhorses of the American economy and not many were set aside. Please check scans and judge grade for yourself. Thanks for looking and have a great day!
