NURSERY RHYME FRIEZE
illustrated by Ida Rentoul Outhwaite

Consists of a soft cover folder  with cover illustration. The folder contains four separate fold out friezes each with three full page illustrations (each page approx 26 x 18.5 cm) alternating with Mother Goose rhymes and surrounded by an illustrated decorative border. When unfolded the six-panel friezes are approx 26 x 74 cm.

The first page is a gift presentation page with corresponding Mother Goose picture;  the rhymes are:

  • Oranges and lemons
  • To market to market
  • See, saw, Margaret Daw
  • Jack Sprat
  • The Queen of Hearts
  • Bye, baby bunting
  • Simple Simon
  • Little Boy Blue
  • Goosey, goosey, gander
  • Oh, dear!
  • There was an old woman.
Book condition:   The presentation page has a grubby mark - see photo.   The rest of the interior is like new.   If using as a wall decoration you would probably just cut off the presentation page anyway.

Ida Rentoul Outhwaite, (1888-1960), was an Australian illustrator of children's books. Her work mostly depicted fairies.  Outhwaite worked predominantly with pen and ink, and watercolour.  Outhwaite's first illustration was published by New Idea magazine in 1904 when she was just 15 years of age.  Her illustrations were exhibited throughout Australia, as well as in London and Paris between 1907 and 1933. Hr works were also published in periodicals and newspapers such as The New Idea, The Native Companion, Australia Today and the British-Australasian.  Her work is depicted in four stained glass windows in an adjoining hall at St Mark's Anglican Church in Fitzroy, Victoria.  In 1985 she was honoured on a postage stamp, depicting an illustration from Elves and Fairies, issued by Australia Post.
