Large tortoise-shell hair comb, with embossed gold-plated decorated top. c.1890/1900
A fine example of a late 19th century Tortoise-shell hair comb with applied gold decoration. The decoration is extremely elaborate and held in place with small, very fine, rivets which pass through the shell and can be seen from the back. It consists of a convex body and a fine set of narrow prongs - and was often used in conjunction with an elaborate hair style.
- Genuine article - not repro or new.
Size: length 9.5cm high x 10cm across x 2cm convex depth.
NB: Has been kept in a box and in storage for at least 80yrs. It has not been cleaned or worn much, so is in its original condition.
Genuine sale, as clearing out Grandmother's old trunk from the loft ! ! !
