This is an antique DraftingSet we found in Paris, France some years ago.  It is encased in a walnut veneered wooded case that is line with a blue velvet like fabric.  Inside it is filled with precision drafting instruments once thought to be the absolute state of the art.   Photos give a good description.  Note that it has a fold down lid liner with brass and celluloid compasses.  The removable tray lifts out and there are some antique writing pens, pencils and an antique ruler.  The case has a working original lock and key which will secure the Set.  (We always wonder why bother to lock it since a thief could just put the whole thing in their pocket!) The case measures 8.25  x 4.75  x 2 inches and weighs one pound, 4 ounces.

We love these old Sets and this one is extra nice as virtually all of the instruments appear to be from the original Set.  The wooden case is in such good condition for its age, well over 100+ years.  The largest compass has a broken tip.  We considered trying to repair it but thought it best to let a new owner make that decision.  We could find no indication of its maker but the underneath has a paper, possibly from a seller, that appears to say, montaigne 419.  (There is a Montaigne Avenue in Paris known for clothing shops, possibly this Set came from a shop there or its owner once resided there.  A mystery to be solved perhaps by a new owner.)  These old Sets make such a special and unique gift for someone graduating or serving in one of the professions that once used and treasured these fine instruments such as architects, scientists, draftsmen, and designers. We will ship this lovely antique at no charge within the U.S. at the listed price.   Also we accept returns for any reason within 30 days.
