Produced in 1946, this Conn Ladyface Alto Saxophone is a truly special piece of Jazz history - producing a sound that is unlike any of the modern saxes, also tonally different to the much-vaunted Selmer Mark VI (which I've also owned and played) - I'd describe the sound as slightly silkier and darker in places whilst possessing enough penetration to deliver at volume in a band. Wonderfully soft and sensuous at low volumes and a true delight to play thanks to the lighter weight and easy manoeuvrability around the keys. This American-sounding horn is ideal if you want to take your expression to the next level.

My guess is you'll want to use your mouthpiece of choice but I'll include an excellent Selmer with the famous BG Ligature a combination that delivers a really lovely sound.

(The Yanagisawa Metal 7 tip mouthpiece is not included in the sale, available for a further £120)

The Horn is cased in the World Famous Hiscox Artist Liteflite case which offers optimum protection for your beautiful instrument - these sell at £250 alone and that the instrument comes like this is testament to the care with which she has been handled in the 30 years I've been her custodian.

If you're wondering what this Sax sounds like, well wait no further - here's a great exposition of the tone and quality you could achieve with a Ladyface: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2FAZPaSqLkM it's not me playing... but it's a nice example, as is this - a 1947 which is very close to this example: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pag61vjyFVc

This Saxophone has been in my possession since 1994, when I purchased from Howarth of London, who had ensured the instrument was in perfect condition. I had a full service by an experienced saxophone technician in 2023 to guarantee the instrument is in tune and perfect to play for years to come, in that process I made sure to get a re-padding which means the horn plays beautifully. The reason that I'm selling is that I want to move to a Soprano again and no longer have a need for a

I'm out of the country at the moment which explains the slightly longer than usual processing time for postage, UK & European postage is welcome, as is collection in Hertfordshire or meeting in Central London.
