Excellent Used Condition, Estate Antique -- comes wrapped in anti-tarnish Pacific Cloth

Post-1870 ornate sterling
BARLEY TWIST handle CONDIMENT SPOON

Pretty mustard spoon!!  We know its after 1870, when a sterling mark became required.

From the estate it was in, we believe this is late Victorian: 1870-1899, part of the Colonial Revival movement of the late Victorian era.

Dainty spoon should be used daily!!! adds to the warmly soft silver patina for which sterling is known.

Use on your table for your condiments: mustard, horseradish, ketchup... even salt or sugar!

Barley Twist:  is a turned furniture feature resembling a spiral corkscrew-like form named after “barley sugar twists”, a type of traditional candy. Hugely popular in the 17th century, the barley twist was often a favored choice for furniture legs, struts and decorative furniture trims. It also branched out as a style for flatware, stemware, hollowware, and jewelry.

--There was a revival of Barley Twist in the 19th Century, when the Revolutionary War generation were dying out, and people, especially women's preservation groups, began to recognize the importance of architectural and historic preservation.  People sought replicas of Colonial styles if they could not afford the real antiques.
