Gorgeous little dual sided box with beautiful ornate filigree and engraving with the name Lyle.  The box was likely a match box with the other side used for cutting cigarillos through the hole in the side.  I haven't found another example like this, so it's hard to say for certain, but that would at least explain the purpose of the hole and metal peace that covers it when the top is closed.

The piece is stamped with what appears to be the Lion Passant Guardant (I say this because there's a hole in the head and not a solid head/mane).   This signifies that it is sterling.

The piece is stamped with an anchor, signifying it came from Birmingham.  The Y&W is for Yapp and Woodward.  After the maker's mark is the letter F.  It's hard to discern for sure, but my best guess is that the letter best matches the F used for 1854, considering Y&W was registered in 1845.

I have not attempted to clean or polish the piece intentionally.  As far as I can tell, this is one of a kind.  I cannot find another dual snuff box from this make.  Thanks for looking at this beautiful and rare piece of history.

Dimensions are 3.25" x 1" x 0.5"
