J. L. SHAW MID-CENTURY AMERICAN VINTAGE GEO-ABSTRACT, HAND DECORATED, SATIN GLAZED, WHEEL-THROWN, RED CLAY CERAMIC VASE
[Superlative, very clean & simply magnificent. Extraordinary. Offered for your review & consideration is this beautiful, J. L. Shaw signed, mid-20th century American vintage geo-abstract, hand decorated, satin glazed, wheel-thrown, red clay ceramic vase, with pronounced shoulders & a delicately fluted top. The sidewall's circumnavigating graphic iconography has a distinctly tribal, indigenous flavor, with a repeating African, tribal-like antelope hide, battle shield motif. The conjoined imagery is realized in a speckled sand color, marked with horizontal strikes of truncated sepia brown, with meandering, angular white line, representing some kind of mysterious, enigmatic figuration. The base glaze color behind the sidewall's graphics is a wonderful light slate blue, which is semi-transparent & variegated. The fluted top is undamaged, as is the rest of the vessel. The vase doesn't suffer from any edge flea-bites, image loss or depreciation of its complex & sensitive, nuanced glaze colors. There are no surface scuffs or abrasions. Estate fresh. 100% untouched & new to the marketplace. Very fine.]
