PABLO Ruiz PICASSO (1881-1973)
This piece of absolute historical interest is an oil on canvas fixed and mounted on wood, dating from 1939/48 (unspecified realization date). On the canvas the signature is located at the bottom right.
It is part of a collection of piece; given as a gift to her friend Gisèle Cloudette in Vallauris, french location where the gallery was located, now closed for many years.
It is a splendid portrait of a reclining woman, in this case the artist's muse could be the friend who received the work as a gift. Picasso certainly made others dedicated to the same woman. In this painting the female figure has soft and rounded lines, a relaxed and sensual attitude.
Later resold to a private english collector and then inherited by the family, which they resold in turn.

Artist of extraordinary creativity, painter, sculptor, graphic designer, costume designer, ceramist, Pablo Picasso is one of the most famous names in 20th century art. Creator of Cubism with Georges Braque, inventor of innovative artistic techniques such as collage, during his long life Picasso represented a point of reference for young generations of artists. After the first difficult years, when he lived in Paris with little money and without critical recognition, from the 1920s onwards Picasso experienced unprecedented fame. His genius and the enthusiastic support of critics and writers have contributed to his success on the international market.
