This is a fabulous antique French silver guard chain probably from the turn of the 19th Century. This type of chain is also known as a longuard/lorgnette/muff chain. It measures 140cm (55")- long enough to double up over the head.

The spring ring can be used to attach a charm or pendant.

It is made from twisted curb links to which ornamental grooved round links have been decoratively applied. 

Good antique condition, just one ornamental round link is detached (see last photo).
