FOR SALE: Sophos SG 210 six-port Gigabit router/firewall running pfSense.

The device is implemented in a rack-mountable form factor. We initially listed the device with no mounting brackets, but subsequently were able to locate compatible brackets, although not in a matching color (see the last photo, where the device is shown with brackets attached). To decouple the device from the manufacturer’s licensing and services, we have installed and configured pfSense, an open-source operating system for networking equipment.

To test the device and make port functions consistent with on-device labeling, we made a few changes to the initial pfSense configuration. A detailed configuration note will be provided to the buyer. Alternatively, the buyer could simply reset the software to its initial state.

The device runs on an Intel Core i3-4330 processor (we upgraded it from the stock Celeron G1820 to double the thread count and add AES-NI support) with 16 GB RAM (double the stock 8 GB). The sole storage device is a 120 GB SSD. There are six Gigabit Ethernet ports serviced by Intel i210 controllers.

The device is actively cooled.

During installation, we configured the Ethernet ports to match labeling on the device’s case. (Needless to say, all these settings are changeable.) We also installed and configured the LCDproc package, which allows to show system information on the device’s built-in small display. The buyer will receive detailed configuration notes so the device can be put to work right out of the box.

A power cable (Look Ma! No power brick!) is included.
