SALE OF JAMES BOND | 007 FILM & LITERARY ITEMS INCLUDING IAN FLEMING

I am selling surplus items from my film and literary collection ranging from £1.00 film collectibles to Ian Fleming originals and continuity author first editions. The most valuable might reach three figures but all auctions begin low so you have a chance to grab a bargain.

This auction is for:

Foreign News. Ian Fleming. Book Three - About Newspapers & Specialists. The Kemsley Manual of Journalism. Cassell (1950/52) 2nd edition
Ian Fleming's first publicly available appearance in book-form. A very readable essay (pp.238-246) in which he discusses his department and provides an insight to the news-gathering techniques of the Foreign service, whilst describing the qualities required for his 'ideal foreign correspondent'.

After the war, Kemsley took Fleming under his wing offering him a job as foreign manager of his Newspaper empire. Fleming was to bring the ailing Sunday Times glamour, social cachet and credibility, and in return was given the means and opportunity to pursue his lifestyle with little inconvenience, ultimately leading to the creation of James Bond.

This edition: Illustrated quarto (25 x 19cm), pp.i-xiv; 424; xvi-xlvi, advertisements. Publisher's cloth, gilt titles to spine, dust-jacket with printed price of 25'-net.

Hardbound book is very clean, near fine. Wrapper lightly handled, spine with some chips to head and tail. Two significant rips on the front cover, one of 3cm and one of 2cm, however the quality of wrapper overall is so much better than usually seen it will still show well in a collection. Very good.

[Information about the title has been freely adapted from Adrian Harrington Rare Books site].
