Vtg Fare Box O-VAULT Cast Aluminum Taxi Streetcar Bus Plainview NY Change Bank

I tried to find more information about this fare box and couldn't find another example of one anywhere.

The company seems to now go by the name(s) of its subsidiary companies.

Estimate that it is from the 1930s to 1940s. The gentleman I purchased it from said that it was bolted to the floor of a taxi.

Key works but only in one position.  If key is inserted 180 degrees off it will fit but not turn.

Weight: 4 lbs 7 oz

5 inch diameter x 4 1/2 inch height (without key)

All cast aluminum construction.

Rivet in top and side appear to have been for attaching a piece of chain to keep the top from being separated from the body.
