GALE STORM
VINTAGE AUTOGRAPHED MOVIE STAR PROMOTIONAL GLOSSY COLOR PHOTO 5-1/4” X 6-3/4”. Hollywood memorabilia at its best - the glitz
and glamour that was popularized in the mid-1930s to the early 1960s. Some of the biggest film stars in history
rose to fame during the ‘golden age’ of Hollywood, in the early and mid-20th
century. During this time, upon fan
request, an actual free picture was sent out to fans of the movie stars they
loved. Fan photos were a studio portrait
of an actor with their autograph. These
could be facsimile autographs, meaning it’s their real signature but it’s printed
by machine. I have a collection of
photos that I acquired when I was a child, and I am now in my seventies! I fondly remember the hours I spent with my
best friend writing letters to all the movie studios requesting a photo of that
particular movie star that was my favorite.
Naturally, the current request was always the favorite! But then, the greatest excitement was rushing
home from school every day to find a package sticking out of my mailbox! We were never refused! In the process of now downsizing, I found
this picture. Josephine Owaissa Cottle (1922 –2009), known
professionally as Gale Storm. was an American actress and singer. She starred in two popular television programs
of the 1950s, My Little Margie and
The Gale Storm Show. Six of her songs were top ten
hits. Storm's greatest recording success
was a cover version of
"I Hear You Knockin". In 1950, Storm made her television debut
in Hollywood Premiere
Theatre on ABC. From 1952 to 1955, she
starred in My Little Margie. The series began as a summer replacement for I Love Lucy on CBS, but ran for 126
episodes on NBC and then CBS. In 1956, she starred in The Gale Storm Show (Oh! Susanna). The show ran for 143 episodes on
CBS and ABC between 1956 and 1960. Storm
appeared regularly on other television programs in the 1950s and 1960s. She was both a panelist and a "mystery
guest" on CBS's What's My Line? This glossy color photograph measures 5-1/4” x 6-3/4”. The colors are striking- blazing red hair,
blue polka dot top, and bold fuchsia background. She has a striking pose as she shows off her
stylish hairdo. She has a precocious
expression, indicative of her true spirit. The photo has a signature (Best Wishes Gale
Storm), which I think is part of the photo.
I cannot authenticate the signature - but I can assure you that I
received the photo direct from a studio, upon my personal request. This movie memorabilia is a treasure of
entertainment history. It is in very
good condition, never displayed or used.
Great nostalgic image of an iconic star that any movie or TV buff will
appreciate. Keep the memories of the
early legends of entertainment alive! Great nostalgic image of Gale Storm.
