Vintage Japanese Shikishi Art Board Painting

This is a vintage Japanese zodiac shikishi art board. It is hand-painted and features rabbit painted in a cute realistic style. The rabbit is standing under the moonlight. There is a wood on the background. This shikishi is painted in a black-and-white monochrome style. It also has some inscriptions. This shikishi art board is signed.

There are three basic types of shikishi paper—calligraphy (poem, haiku) only, calligraphy with pictures, and pictures only. Since the Heian period, people have been writing waka and haiku on Shikishi paper (various sizes), but in the Meiji period, they started using paper of the current size. In current day, shikishi paper/boards are used for autographs of celebrities and also commemorative messages to friends, coworkers, and classmates.

• Good condition considering age. Some stains. Some damage on the corners. Wear and tear due to age. Please see the photos.
