Original BERNHARD ROHNE Acid Etched Brass Wall Hanging Art SIGNED DATED

Titled "BRIDGES" Dated October 22, 1981. Bernhard Rohne was born in Germany in 1944 and lives/works in British Columbia, Canada. See full biography at end of description. Bernhard Rohne is known worldwide for his pioneering work with acid-etched metal, mainly done in the 1970s and 1980s. He is known for designing acid-etched furniture and other Art forms, but his marvelous wall hangings are perhaps the most beloved amongst both critics and collectors.

Signed by hand on lower left with his 'Metallic Design' Art Studio symbol to the left. As an extra 'signature', the artist has acid etched his fingerprint along the bottom, to the right of his name and date.

Super deluxe VERY RARE piece- Hand toned and tinted, in shades of brass, copper, gold, rust, maroon, brown, dark grey, and black. This is a beautiful genuine copper metal hand etched hand colored original by Bernhard Rohne. Very heavy.

A Modernist stylized urban landscape scene of bridges, towers, and some small fantasy creatures plus a stylized sun. This piece looks entirely different depending on how light illuminates it. The depth of field is incredible- from some angles it looks 3-d and as if you could stroll right into the world Mr. Rohne has created.

The colors also seem to glow depending on lighting.

 10.75" high x 24.25"

Excellent PRISTINE condition. No damage or scratches/ fading to artwork and no damage to frame. Certificate of Authenticity on back. See all pics and use zoom. A highly collectible piece. This particular piece is quite rare- have not seen another like it of his etchings.

The details are stunning- the tiny etched details are marvelous and this particular piece has exceptional tone and crisp lines...wonderful. Done with great skill.

Each Metallic Design etching has a design applied to a metal sheet in an acid resistant material either by hand or serigraph, after which the piece is subjected to treatment by acid. During the etching process, the areas not covered by the resist are eaten away, leaving the design raised slightly from the background. Then, the metal is further treated with chemicals to impart the unique oxidation or colored patterns of the background. It must be emphasized that each piece undergoes this treatment individually, the results may appear similar but can never be identical. The etching is then carefully hand finished to draw out the intrinsic light catching qualities of the metal, and finally lacquered to protect the surface.

A highly collectible & fascinating piece. A fabulous addition to any serious Art collection. Pieces by Bernhard Rohne are increasing in value yearly.

Frame is matte black brushed metal. Back of frame has a recessed indented ledge so that it can be hung easily without hanging hardware. Frame only covers less than 1/4" of the metal artwork plate on each side.

Biography of artist: Bernhard Rohne - My career as an artist began in 1965, with an accident in art school (WKS Hannover). The curriculum in the chemistry class was a project of my choosing, in which I immersed a small painted copperplate in a vat of acid. After a couple of hours of waiting, and with no visible reaction happening to the plate, I decided it was ok to go for lunch. On my return I noticed some peculiar yellow clouds at the entrance to the classroom, and within minutes the entire department had to be evacuated (I learned much later that those yellow clouds were very toxic).

An emergency rescue by my teacher was also a lesson in the neutralizing effect of an alkalizing base solution. A potentially explosive runaway reaction had been narrowly averted.

On further examination; the situation had resulted in something that got my attention. The very hot reaction of the acid on the metal plate had created an interesting deep structure and gestalt. I had suddenly and unexpectedly entered a marriage-like relationship between metal and my imagination.

Being an artist is one of the most difficult addictions man has to live with. Rohne is an artist dedicated (even addicted) to his work. It is highly specialized skill that combines knowledge of metals and chemistry with a catalyst of creative ability.

In 1967 I immigrated to Canada
