Hello and welcome to The House of Chrome.

You are looking at a classic 1st generation (1950's era) Electro Voice 664 dynamic cardioid microphone. Often referred to as "The Buchanan Hammer" salesman would demonstrate it's toughness and reliability by pounding nails into a piece wood with the mic then hooking it up to show that it would still work without issue. This microphone was not used as a hammer...obviously and shows just lite wear from use over the decades. It comes with a 4 pin Belden model cable in which to operate.

Pic # 2 shows an old E.V data sheet with all the basic characteristics of this mic. You can always make a copy of this to keep with the mic.

The 664 was a revolutionary mic being tough, reliable, great sounding and having a uni-directional pattern only picking up what was directly in front of the microphone cancelling out all background noise. It was the standard for all other mics of it's era and sounds as good as most quality mics built today if the 664 is in good working order. This one most certainly is.

This 664 has been thoroughly cleaned, tested and gone over. You'll have no issues with any mics I sell.

This particular mic is in perfect working condition and currently set at Low impedance giving you a warm, smooth tone that has a bit of bass. This will be ideal for general broadcasting or singing purposes. If you want a 664 with an old school "rockabilly" tone then I would suggest buying a 664 set at High Impedance. If you want a 664 with more bass and a warmer tone then a Low impedance mic is the way to go. Again, this is set for Low Z and the signal strength is 100%.

Buyers beware...these chromed bodies DO NOT polish out. If there is pitting, scratches or engravings they do not come out. Don't be fooled thinking they will look like new once the damage is done as many sellers online are claiming.

Again, the polished chrome body on this 664 shows very lite wear. Very gently used since it was sold originally. No engravings or deep scratches. Just a few very lite scratches and a few small spots of pitting. The 664 label looks very nice too and completely legible. The front screen has just zero deformation, odors or tarnish. The on / off switch works perfect as well.

This 664 has a new foam inner pop filter to cut down on unwanted "pops" from breathing or windy conditions. The joint mechanism works perfectly with plenty of tension and it's adjustable via side screw. The on / off switch was cleaned and works just as it should and slides smoothly. The threading for the cable and stand are perfect...nothing stripped or fractured.

I would rate this mic a very conservative 8 physically speaking on a scale of 1 - 10.

There is a longer 13 foot 4 pin screw on cable included to operate this mic. The cable is a Belden 8422 model. It's soft, pliable and free of damage. It has a quality Switchcraft male XLR end connector. Simply add any longer XLR cable of choice as an extension. It's a very practical set up really.

The mic cable has just lite exterior stains but otherwise very nice.

The 664 will screw onto any desk or floor stand you choose to use but I would suggest getting a stand with a heavy or wider base due to the top heavy nature of this mic.

MICROPHONE STAND SHOWN IS NOT PART OF THIS SALE AND USED FOR DISPLAY PURPOSES ONLY...

As with all my other vintage microphones...
