This is a relatively rare 9ct solid gold bodied engine turned Mabie Todd of New York fountain pen with a 14ct gold number 2 nib & its companion 9ct solid gold bodied propelling pencil.

It has a small dint amidships and it needs a new ink sack but it is marked nine carat on the clip and on the top of the pen top and on the top of the pen itself, together with  Swan Pen, Mabie Todd New York and Made in USA.

It is monogrammed AWG 18th June 1930.

It comes with a 9ct gold bodied propelling pencil in the same engine turned style and monogrammed AWG but dated 18th June 1932 (AWG's birthday presumably).

The pen weighs 23 grams. Another listing says the average weight of a presumably inkless MT is just under 8 grammes so that would mean there is up to 15 grams of 9ct gold in the pen carcass.

The propelling pencil adds another 21 grams but I don't know how much of that weight is gold but I am guessing up to two thirds... so another 14 grams.

The current spot price for 9ct gold is £21.78 a gram so there's up to £630 worth of  intrinsic gold value in the pen and propelling pencil.

The pen cap and pencil cap alone weigh 11.39g so the figures coule be an under-estimate...

And you get the quality and prestige of a vintage set of Mabie Todds on top...
