Japanese Shikishi Printed Reproduction Shoen Uemura Hatsuyuki Geisha Kimono A606

Description

Japanese Shikishi Art Reproduction

This is a Japanese shikishi art board. It is a printed reproduction of the painting Hatsuyuki (First Snow) by Shoen Uemura. It represents a woman wearing a kimono and holding a white Japanese umbrella. Some small white snowflakes can be seen. This printed reproduction has a tag on the back and a washi paper dedicated cover.

There are three basic types of shikishi paper—calligraphy (poem, haiku) only, calligraphy with pictures, and pictures only. Since the Heian period, people have been writing waka and haiku on Shikishi paper (various sizes), but in the Meiji period, they started using paper of the current size. In the current day, shikishi paper/boards are used for autographs of celebrities and also commemorative messages to friends, coworkers, and classmates.
