Harwood - Blancpain Vintage 14k Gold Watch - The First Automatic Watch

A lovely vintage Harwood/Blancpain automatic watch. The watch is 100% original vintage condition with a 37mm x 30mm solid 14k gold case. Silver grey dial with raised metal arabic numerals with matching hands and solid case back.

The Harwood automatic watch is the earliest example and in fact truly the first automatic watch. The movement was described as a hammer movement later developed into the "bumper" movements by other Swiss watch makers.

The case & synthetic crystal are unpolished and in very good condition and showing only minor signs of cosmetic wear.  Dial is excellent as can be seen in the images.

The case case has a rear dedication to ‘CNR’ for March 17th, 1936 with the interior of case back marked ‘MD 39344’ with indistinct maker’s mark. The automatic movement is not running and in need of service.

The movement marked ‘Ste Fse Harwood Brevetes G. D. G./No. 580247 Harwood/Blancpain Ab. Suisse’ with some spots of corrosion or verdigris, but the unique time setting function will engage, and the hands move freely to set the time.

Restored watches of this quality regularly sell for USD $3.,000-$4,000. Priced at $2400.00 AUD, which will allow the new owner to proceed with the required service and restoration.
