ANTIQUE PRIMITIVE SALT GLAZED
STONEWARE JUG
MADE BY THE OTTMAN BROTHERS
FT. EDWARD, NEW YORK
"THE TORNADO!"

Antique primitive salt glazed stoneware one-gallon size jug, made by the Ottman Brothers & Co. 1872 - 1892. "THE TORNADO!"

These "tornado" jugs are a true part of American culture in the 1800's in Northeast America. This one has the classic plume and spiral depicting a tornado. This work was created by hand with blue cobalt glaze. This one was made in Ft. Edward, New York by the legendary Ottman Brothers who made stunning stoneware for twenty years.

We have a friend who claims these designs are actually turnips, a vegetable staple of horses back in the 1800's, but we think they look completely like tornados.

The jug has a sturdy strap handle and a nice shiny salt glazed final coat. The jug is 12" tall and 7" wide at the base. Excellent condition here with a few small glaze flakes off the lip edge.

The legendary Ottman's at work here and the great tornado!

ENJOY * ENJOY * ENJOY!!!!

SHIPPING COSTS

WE BASE OUR SHIPPING COSTS ON OUR ACTUAL BILLING FROM FEDEX PLUS THE COST OF MATERIALS. THE COST YOU SEE FOR SHIPPING THE ITEM YOU ARE INTERESTED IN IS IS A CLOSE AVERAGE OF OUR COST OF SHIPPING THAT ITEM THROUGH FEDEX. WE PACK PROPERLY EVERY PIECE OF STONEWARE STONEWARE WE SELL. Buyers of antiques or farmhouse design elements on our auctions should know that these items are used and not new and that what we offer, can show some evidence of wear and flaws in their manufacture and possible condition issues, both structural and/or cosmetic. Please refer to the photos for condition evaluation and use our descriptions as a basic overall guide to the item's condition, but not a complete analysis of the items exact condition, appearance or value. Listing space on eBay allows for only twelve pictures and a limited amount of descriptive characters. Our descriptions at times, only include issues of condition after the actual making of the item. Buyers of our stoneware should be aware that mention of flaws during the making of these primitive and antique items will be discussed in our descriptions, only when applicable, as an informative characterization. All primitive antique stoneware examples have flaws in the making and these generally are not included in our descriptions, so please use the pictures. Flaws and condition issues after the making, are made note of in our descriptions, and are only opinions and observations of the seller, however, the buyer/bidder should be aware that only the photos provided in our listings should be used to evaluate and determine decisions concerning condition, value and bidding/purchasing. All purchases are "as is" and final. Bidding is a commitment to purchase and failure to follow through with the purchase after bidding in good faith within the limitations of the eBay agreement will result in expulsion from our auctions and a negative report to eBay.
