The auction is for a copy of Jollie's Cumberland Guide & Directory published by Jollie in 1811. This is an octavo hardback in scruffy condition but which appears to be textually complete. There is a folding illustration of buildings in Carlisle which is torn and tatty and the illustrations which should be in part II are missing. The book is in two sections - the first part focusses on Carlisle while the second part looks at the county generally. This is a very interesting item which gives a comprehensive picture of this northern county over two hundred years ago. This is a scarce publication with only modern reproductions found online. Bidding starts at 25.00.
