This is a lovely art nouveau style American sterling silver and straw whisk broom/brush made by George W. Shiebler and Theodore B. Starr, between 1900 and 1915, in New York City. Shiebler was an important New York City maker in the late 19th century and early 20th century. His company ran from 1876-1915. Theodore B. Starr started in 1900 and became, became Starr & Marcus before becomng Reed & Barton after 1924. He too was an important maker. This brush has both their marks which was between 1900-1915. Besides a chrysanthemum and leaf nouveau/Japanese inspired design, there are large flowing initials “LMB”. The silver handle is in excellent antique condition. The straw is tightly and well bundled and might not be the original.
