c 1921 Melba China (made by Mayer & Sherratt) hand painted fluted floral serving plate in pattern #1996, produced at the Clifton works in Longton, Staffordshire.
This tactile, molded plate bears exquisitely detailed, hand painted floral swags in rich Imari tones of rust, green and cobalt blue on a lustrous, bright white background with gold highlights.
Dimensions: 24 cm diameter
While this plate is in original, antique condition with no repairs or restoration that I can identify, there is a chip to the reverse lip (refer image 3) and some micro crazing.
The colours remain clear and bright and the gilding is in great condition.
There are a few fine glaze and kiln spots, very typical of china manufactured at this time and the manual processes involved.
The underside is unmarked except for a hand written painter's mark.
I have listed 7 sets of trios, another serving plate and spare saucers and side plates in this pattern separately.
