Exquisite Decorative ROSENTHAL Tilly Mold OVAL CASSEROLE w/LID, Hand Decorated PINK FLORALS Pattern, on WHITE Embossed & Scalloped w/GOLD Trim on Handles from Selb, Bavaria, Germany, Circa 1897-1906
DESCRIPTION: This intricate but elegant pattern has a sprays of delicate pink blooms on on the high white of the porcelain enhanced by light blue background ghost flowers to give depth to the sprays. The rim of the Tilly mold which was introduced in 1897 is scalloped and the body of the lid and bowl is intricately embossed. The stippled gold on all three handles is striking and the foot of the bowl also has the stippled gold. This is a real beauty that was decorated by a very talented artist in the Rosenthal studio!
CONDITION: The condition of this Rosenthal casserole is superb. We can find no defects and only slight damage. We are being very picky to say that we found a small Flake on inside rim of flange of the lid and 2 smaller, tiny flakes on side of foot. These are really hard to see. There are no chips, other nicks, cracks, rubbings or hairlines. The gold on the handles and foot is as applied. Please refer to the photos to see how classically beautiful this is.
DIMENSIONS: The oval casserole is 11 1/8" handle to handle by 7 5/8" in width with a height of 2 7/8". With the lid in place, the overall height is 5 3/4".
HISTORY/MARKS: In 1879 in Upper Franconia, Bavaria at Erkersreuth Castle, Phillip Rosenthal (1855-1937) founded a porcelain decorating studio using blanks supplied by Zeidler. His business grew to the point that in 1891 he built his first factory to produce porcelain using kaolin imported from Bohemia. The current Rosenthal website states from 1907 the company marks each product with its full name, thus the brand name of Rosenthal is born in 1907. In his book entitled Rosenthal, Dieter Struss dates this mark as used in the 1897-1906 time period. This casserole is on the Tilly mold which was introduced in 1897. This dates the production of the casserole in the 1897-1906 time period.
