Eastern Bluebird Nest Box
Round Hole
Recycled Wood from storm-damaged trees, building construction scraps, or discarded pallets.
Hand Made at the Highlands Craft Shop, Stanton, Kentucky

The round opening is traditional and a successful design, and is in use by landowners and farmers, the US Forest Service, many parks, and numerous state Fish and Wildlife Department.

To attract Eastern Bluebirds, the house must be placed along the edge of large open areas - yards, schools or parks, golf courses, or farm meadows.  A pair of nesting bluebirds needs 2-3 acres of open area to forage for insects to raise their young.  This house will also attract Carolina Chickadees, Tufted Titmice, and Nuthatches if placed in a secluded area, in woodlands, or brush cover.  All these species are welcome guests to yard or garden, and will reward your family with hours of enjoyment, and will help rid your property of pesky insects.

Brief directions:
  1. Place box in secluded location 4-8 feet above ground level.  Fasten with 2 nails to a tree, fence post, or building.
  2. Face the box toward open fields or meadows.
  3. Or, place in wooded areas for other bird species.
  4. Fasten with double head nails or deck screws.
  5. To clean out old nest - around Thanksgiving, loosen lock screw on upper right and pull open front.  Clean out old nest.  Refasten.
  6. Birds will use this box as a winter roost as well as summer nesting box.  Leave up year-round.

Measurements are approximate:
Height: 12 in not including the back piece where nails go in for installation.
Depth:  5.5 in
Width:  9 in
