EDWARD GOODALL RWS (1819-1908)

SKETCHES FROM SKETCHBOOKS CIRCA 1886   

This small sketch is by Edward Goodall and taken from a series of sketchbooks purchased at a major London saleroom.   Nearly all the sketches have their location pencilled in by Goodall, some with dates between 1884-6.

The sketches were made during one of Goodall's frequent trips to the continent; this section round the lakes of northern Italy.    They are of fine quality, though many are slight first touches of the pencil to be worked up later.    This particular  sketch in watercolour is a study entitled "The Penitant".

 Goodall exhibited 86 works at the RWS, also at the RA, Fine Art Society and other prestigious salons.    He was elected RWS in 1864.    

All are mounted on acid free paper and then board.
