Is it worth getting a completly-verified NOISE-TEST & mA, gm measurement test? Absolutely!

ACTUAL DIGITAL READOUTS TESTED AT REAL-WORLD POWER LEVELS!

TUBEMUSEUM USES a 3-STEP NOISE TEST PROCESS: See the .0 mA Gas reading in the lower right hand corner of the LCD ?, this is the first Step 1. We test hundreds of tubes and most tubes have some noise, super-low noise results are rare, select few and far between. Most tubes have some mA/gas, about .4 to .6mA sometimes as high as 1.0 or even 2.0 mA/Gas right out of the SEALED NOS box! Very few tubes can claim a PERFECT zero mA/gas reading - With preamp tubes, anything more than 0.1 milliampere of gas current will likely cause problems in the application circuit. Noise may be excessive, and/or the tube may not establish its correct operating point. Zero in this case is PERFECT. Do you know what your tubes measure in noise? Ask us to help you find out more about noise and how it plays a part in degradation of real true to life sound reproduction in your system.

Tube Museum Noise Test: Step 2 - The Noise Test applies B+ to the tube, and biases it into linear operation. No AC signal is applied to the grid. The AC plate current, and hence the noise signal, is coupled to an RCA jack on the AT1000. By connecting an external amplifier and headphones or speaker, a relative aural judgment of tube noise can be performed. The TubeMuseum uses a McIntosh MC-225 audio amplifier, McIntosh C-22 Preamp and high quality adapter to connect the equipment to the RCA jack on the AT1000, and a speaker or headphone for the noise test. The tube is inserted and allowed to warm up. The signal is AC coupled, and line level (100 mV) sensitivity is adequate in most cases. The tubes operating point to be established, as indicated by a steady plate current reading. Then, the volume on the amplifier is gradually increased. We listen for excessive noise, popping, and sizzling, rumbling or microphonic sounds. We reject and do not sell a tube with any anomalies detected in any tube.

Step 3 - Finally the tube is "sound-checked" in a preamp under real-world listening conditions.

Is it worth getting a completly-verified NOISE-TEST & mA Report? Absolutely!

With preamp tubes like a 12AX7, anything more than 1.0 milliampere of gas current will likely cause problems in the application circuit. Noise may be excessive, and/or the tube may not establish its correct operating point.

Take special notice, as it is the tubes most important result of the “mA Gas Test”. During the Gas Test, the grid circuit source impedance is increased 10 times. Plate current is measured before, and then again after the impedance is altered. If there is residual gas inside the tube, the ion current flowing in the gas between the plate or screen and the grid causes the grid to become more positive or less negative. This produces an increase in plate current, this difference is the value that is displayed in milliamperes.

1.) You are responsible for shipping costs for your tubes to and from the TubeMuseum in New York. Ship your tube(s) to us for a complete state-of-the-art digital bench-check and report. ACTUAL photo-documentation of the digital readout as shown in this ad for YOUR specific tube(s) will be sent by email to you if requested. The unit service charge does not include return shipping of your tube(s), you purchase your return shipping when completed - this should be the same as you pay to ship your tubes to us.

2.) We treat your tubes with care as if they were our own. We are not responsible for tubes recieved damaged, defective tubes, or DOA's. You will be notified immediatly upon arrival if your tube is inoperable, too weak to use, or expired. You are responsible for packing your tubes in a safe manner and sending them to us by USPS with delivery confirmation and insured. Upon receipt we will acknowledge your delivery, test your tubes, email you the digital photo-report if requested and return them (postage pre-paid) to your confirmed eBay / paypal address. Shipping speed is your choice - we recommend USPS Priority-Mail. The unit service charge does not include return shipping cost of your tubes, you purchase your return shipping when completed or simply PRE-PAY your Priority shipping - this should be the same as you pay to ship your tubes to us by USPS.

3.) If you need to purchase to replace any of your tubes - and you are not required to do so, you may simply have them sent back with the report with no obligation to buy - we will provide you with a quote which you may purchase through our TubeMuseum Store Buy-it-Now listing on eBay.

4.) You will receive back exactly what you send with the test measurements for each tube, which will tested according to the stock/ standard automatic testing procedure set by the Amplitrex AT1000 tester. They will be shipped back to you, exactly how you shipped them to us, in the same identical box the same way they come, AND in the same condition that they arrived here.

5.) This is a testing-service only - not a repair service. We assume no responsibility, or any warranty of the future condition, operation, or future life of your used tubes - we only test what you send, and send it back with a test-report.

".. Hi, I use to DREAD turning on my Vintage McIntosh MR-67 until I decided to have my entire tube complement tested by the Tube Museum tube experts, and NOW I’m a Tube Museum disciple! When I saw the actual digital-readouts of my 6BL8's , 6U8 and 12AT7 testing at only 20%-26% mA, where my Hickok antique tube tester reports them as "good" I was quite surprised, but relieved.
