European Grand Tour Original Landscapes

1843-1845

'Bridge at Bousar'

This well drawn pencil sketch comes from a disbound early Victorian album Circa 1840.

Although the name of the artist is un-known, he or she is English and probably came from the South of England around Eastbourne. Several of the drawings in the album are from this area.

The standard of the drawings is good and at times they approach semi-professional especially the pencil drawings.

The picture's are clearly drawn by a person undertaking the Grand Tour and are interesting records of the Victorian and Georgian times.

The folio of work is principally Southern Europe, especially Italy around Sorrento, Greece around Athens and Mycenae, a few are from Malta and as far North as the Tyrol.

Fortunately all locations are listed and almost all are dated.

The picture is dated June 4th 1844.

This picture from the album is in very good condition with sporadic foxing spots . The picture is mounted under card ready for framing.

The picture size is 34cm x 22cm.
