The Idle control Valve (basically) controls the amount of air let into the inlet manifold when on idle. The valve has a 'Pin' which moves in and out incredibly fast, meaning the engine idle can be controlled accurately.

Common symptoms of a faulty Idle Air control Valve (IAC) are:

Poor idling (you would never have guesed!)

Cutting out when the engine speed drops (approching bends, roundabouts etc)

High revving on idle

Idle speed going up and down

A diagnostic machine will sometimes point out the IAC is faulty, however, not always.

Virtually every manufacturer and vehicle will have a different AIAC part number.

PLEASE TRUST ME, THE BEST WAY TO BUY AN IAC IS TO GET THE NUMBER FROM YOUR EXISTING UNIT.

YOU CAN GET THE MANUFACTURES PART NUMBER FROM YOUR DEALER, IF YOU CANT GET TO YOUR IAC.

IT WILL USUALLY be something like A0875 or C95166 etc, the number is inscribed on to the black plastic part where the elctrical plug connects.

A small mirror might be helpful.

Please check to see if the mounting screws holes are directly opposite each other or  offset.

The shape of the 'cone' is quite important as well.

The length of the shaft sticking out is irrelevent as this moves constantly. The style of the shaft may also be different, but, again, this is unimportant.
