4X Fast, 4X Slow then steady - Brake Light Modulator

Sold to riders... By a rider!

LED Bulb not included.
This ebay sale is for modulator only.

Fall 2013 Update!
Sales of modulators have helped acquire a former military vehicle for ministry outreach!
This new backhoe/front loader/jack hammer/4X4 5 Ton vehicle will assist us in providing services to widows of bikers, regional churches and the needy with their excavation needs.

NO MORE will widows of bikers have to suffer the burden of over priced work for driveway repair, underground utilities, retaining walls, etc.
Rest assured that your dollar spent here is making a difference!

Unlike other items you may find on eBay, I trust my life to this product whenever I ride!   In addition to my life, I also have my wife and my son ride on the back of the bike and I want all the protection I can muster back there.   I know what it's like out there on our roads and with all the new anti-texting laws... It's getting worse by the day! :(

Before the new anti-texting laws cagers would at least hold their phone up on the steering wheel while they were texting.  We had the benefit of them seeing us by way of their peripheral vision,   BUT NOW with all the new anti-texting laws the cagers are still texting...   Just now they hold it down on their lap!

It doesn't matter to me what type of modulator you put on the back of your ride, I just ask that you consider enhancing your back side to make you more visible.   And PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE watch those mirrors like a hawk at EACH STOP.   Have your escape route planned out and stay in gear in case you gotta jet!

Here are the details on the modulator

What does a modulator do?
A modulator causes your lights to flash, flicker or pulse.   This particular model will flash the rear brake light 4 times really fast, then 4 times slow, then will go steady each time you press the brakes.

Can this modulator hold up to harsh environments?
This modulator is IP65 rated.   That means that it is rated to withstand high vibration as well as splashes.   The circuitry is encased in a resin to prevent water and moisture from entering.
Pictures in the description show the modulator in use and powered on while submerged in water! :)   This test was ran for two days straight completely submerged in water!

How are these installed?
Installation is straight forward.   Heres how:
1) Locate a spot to mount your modulator.  Under the seat, behind a side cover, etc.
2) Locate the wiring heading back towards the brake light.
3) Locate the wire that becomes HOT when you press your brakes.   You can use a multi-meter or test lamp.
4) Connect the single red wire from the modulator to the wire that goes to the brake light or LED strip.
5) Connect the other two wires (red/black) to the source and ground.
6) Clean surface where you wish to mount modulator... Use adhesive backing.

What if my bike doesn't have an LED bulb already?
1) Most auto places sell 1157 LED replacement bulbs.   They run anywhere from 9.00 to 25.00.
2) You can also use an LED flex strip instead of your factory bulb.  (This is what I use)

How many LEDs can this unit flash?
About 300 LEDs (depending on type, color, size, draw).  (1.2 Amps max current)

When connecting to my bikes wiring... Can I use those little plastic snap things?
It is STRONGLY recommend to soldering all connections to make sure you have a ROCK solid connection!   One that prevents errosion and moisture from attacking the exposed copper wiring.

If you are unfamiliar with soldering, simply check out this video:  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xrVCkEoY_8M

What if I have some odd vehicle that runs on 24VDC?
No worries! :)  This modulator works on 12 or 24 V systems.

What does it look like when it's installed?
Here is a video of it in use:  http://youtu.be/iwjSbASCQBw

Are there any install instructions?
Yep... Modulator comes with some basic instructions.   But below are links from others who have made install guides.

What have others said about your modulator VS something like BackOf*?
AI4PX -
says "I tried a couple of brake modulators and zowwie438 's modulator is by far the best!"
JammerWalker - says "nice looking product, seems well made. Worth the $$"
Joshuaazorola2 says "Worked just like any other top selling brand."
Turbotoy4x4 says "Amazing quality product!!! Somuch so that I bought a second unit!" and "Worked perfectly on my 2009 Buell XB12XT!!! Thanks for an awesome product!"
Glennspeed says "I love the modulator thank you!!"

Have others installed these modulators on things like trailers?
YES!   Many times trailers carry very expensive cargo.   From your bikes in an enclosed trailer, to the 30,000 dollar boat, to prescious cargo like expensive show horses... Folks like that added protection back there.

Note however that when connecting a trailer to the modulators... You must order TWO (one for left and one for right).   Once installed you will obtain a new feature too! :)
a) When pressing the brakes, you will receive 4 rapid flashes, 4 slow, then steady.
b) When you use your turn signal... They will pulse 4 rapid, 4 rapid, 4 rapid and so on.

Common Concerns

I hooked my modulator up, but it's acting strange.
We have had two reports of back feeding from 500+ sold.   This is an electrical term that is used when voltgage flows through other objects like traditional bulbs.
1) Make sure you DO NOT use this unit with a traditional brake bulb.  Must be LED.
2) We have seen this with SOME cheap China manufactured LED bulbs.
3) If you want to do some custom wiring.  Research how diodes work.   They are like a one way valve for electricity.   This will prevent back flow and will allow you to create custom applications for LED strips that can function as both parking, brake, hazard, turn, etc.
4) If you have issues... I will ship you out a diode and a diagram or you can pick up a pack at RadioShack for about 1.75.
5) I always make sure my customers are taken care of with respect to issues they have installing.

What if I have issues?
Drop me an email on ebay.  It goes straight to my cellphone.   From there I can send you info or hop on the phone and walk you through.   No call centers from India here folks.

What about the cops?
What about them!   You are simply inserting an automated item to pulse your brake lights just as if your hand could on the brake lever.   The only difference is you are making sure they flash every time and that you don't have to remember to pulse them manually.

HOWEVER... Cops are strange when they see anything besides them blinking or flashing.  They will normally investigate... So make sure you are up to speed with your paper work for the bike.

Here is an example in California of bikers getting a rough way to go: You Tube Clip

Victory Motorcycle Owners
Sorry!   This modulator may not work on Victory!   Why?   It appears that they use some special communication bus in their wiring and when we first discovered this issue Victory flat out refused to work with us to help provide a solution for their customers.   So Victory owners... Have Victory contact me and I will happily find a solution.   But last I spoke to them they flat our refused to assist a third party.
