In the 1946 Camillus Catalog which was printed late the memo dated May 1,1947 stated

Changes in Knives:

For reasons of cost and manufacturing efficiency,it has been necessary to make changes in the construction of some knives, as follows:

Handles: Some knives described as having Bone stag may come through with *Plastag* handles.

This is a 1947 model#41 Pen Senator offered in the 1946 catalog with the May 1,1947 update of models available due to the catalog being sent to the presses late. The models were as follows:1,11,14,15,16,18,20,21,22,23,27,33,40,41,42,43,64-7,68-70,72,73,91,99 Respectively due to cost of materials knives marked as coming with bone stag may come through with the new cheaper version called "PLASTAG" Their was some other minor changes such as a few models with the Shield being discontinued. This was one of them. According to the Catalog the Camillus is pronounced "KA-MILL-US". This vintage model Camillus Pen Senator has super "WALK AND TALK" the spear and pen blades show significant signs of sharpening but the are in perfect working order. The Bone Stag Handles or PLASTAG are in great shape with some minimal shrinkage.The nickel/Silver Bolsters are Brilliant and the brass liners are in great shape. This is a great Early Model #41 to add to your collection.

DEFINITION OF A POCKET KNIFE

A pocket knife is a folding knife with one or more blades that fit inside the handle that can still fit in a pocket. It is also known as a jackknife or jack-knife. A typical blade length is 5 to 15 cm (2 to 6 inches.)

The Camillus Cutlery Company was one of the oldest knife manufacturers in the United States. The Company, which has its roots dating back to 1876, produced millions of knives until it filed for bankruptcy in 2007 due to fierce overseas competition. Its brand name and intellectual property rights were purchased by Acme United Corporation, which re-launched Camillus in May 2009.

This knife is a fairly early (Slip joint or Jack knife) from Camillus and it has genuine Black Jigged bone Handles that are just as pristine as the day it left the Camillus New York Factory of which after days of research we come to the conclusion that this knife pre dates the Korean Conflict specifically 1947.

The tang stamp coincides and the bone handles or *PLASTAG* are a dead give away. The knife has Thumb nail pulls and sharpening marks on the main blade only that in the pictures look way worse than what they really are. These digital cameras really intensify the photo's. But as you can see this is one very clean Early model Camillus.

This is a super Vintage U.S.A. 3-1/8" Camillus Model #41 Slip Joint or Jack Knife with genuine Bone stag or (Plastag*) Handles that are as pristine as the day it left the Camillus N.Y. Factory. This knife has been sharpened and carried over the years but with the exception of some sharpening marks on the main blade this vintage Camillus is in as Near Mint as they come. The blades are full and the nickel/silver bolsters are positively beautiful.
