HISTORY - HEARTS
The heart has long been used as a symbol to refer to the spiritual, emotional, moral, and in the past, also intellectual core of a human being. As the heart was once widely believed to be the seat of the human soul, the word heart continues to be used poetically to refer to the soul, and stylized depictions of hearts are used as prevalent symbols representing love. In religious texts the heart was historically ascribed much mystical significance, either as metaphor or as an organ genuinely believed to have spiritual or divine attributes.
Many classical philosophers and scientists, including Aristotle, considered the heart the seat of thought, reason or emotion, often rejecting the value of the brain. The Stoics taught that the heart was the seat of the soul. The Roman physician Galen located the seat of the passions in the liver, the seat of reason in the brain, and considered the heart to be the seat of the emotions. While Galen's identification of the heart with emotion were proposed as a part of his theory of the circulatory system, the heart has continued to be used as a symbolic source of human emotions even after the rejection of such beliefs.
FUN FACTS - CUBIC ZIRCONIA
Cubic zirconia (CZ) is the cubic crystalline form of zirconium dioxide (ZrO2). The synthesized material is hard, optically flawless and usually colorless. Because of its low cost, durability, and superior likeness to diamond, synthetic cubic zirconia has remained the most gemologically and economically important competitor for diamonds since commercial production began in 1976. It is a dense substance, with a specific gravity at least 1.6 times that of diamond.
Cubic Zirconia has an extremely high melting point of 4976°F. As with the majority of grown diamond substitutes, the idea of producing single-crystal cubic zirconia arose from scientists seeking a new material for use in lasers and other optical applications. Although zirconium oxide was first discovered in 1892, because of the extreme high melting point, a productive method of growing crystals was not perfected until 1973 - and commercial production of the crystal did not begin until 1976. Today it is a very common crystal used because of its brillance and versatility.
