Good plant for bog gardens and the shallow margins of ponds, Mimulus ringens has longer and narrower leaves than most mimulus species. The violet blue flowers appear throughout July until the end of September and very attractive to bees and other pollinating insects.
How to grow
The seeds need a period of cold and damp conditions followed by gradual warmth to break their natural dormancy. We recommend surface sowing the very fine seed in early spring onto very wet compost and placing in a cold greenhouse or coldframe keeping the compost moist at all times. Germination is naturally slow and sporadic.
