Useful notes:
- Length of stir bar depends on the flask base diameter. Normally, the stir bar length should be between 30 and 60% of the flask base diameter.
- Diameter of the stir bar depends on the nature of the mixed solution. As the viscosity of the solution increases, the optimum diameter of the stir bar increases.
- Speed of mixing also determines the optimum size of stir bar. Use smaller size stir bar if high mixing speed is required to reduce the vortex depth.
- Please note that magnetic stirrers are suitable for low and medium viscosity solutions. For high viscosity and thick solutions, such as gels, mechanical (overhead) stirrers can be used.
