Now the M-DISC comes in a 25GB Blu-ray! With all of the longevity benefits of our original DVD, the Blu-ray gives you over five times the storage capacity on one disc. As technology rapidly advances, we're living longer, doing more, creating more memories and recording more data. Every scrapbooker, business owner, photographer, every person fears losing the legacy they have spent their lifetime creating. M-DISC eliminates that fear. Once written, your documents, medical records, photos, videos and data will last up to 1,000 years. "Just M-Disc and Forget It!"
M-DISC is the only data storage solution to withstand rigorous testing by the U.S. Department of Defense. Even today's leading archival optical discs weren't up to the challenge. M-DISC is resistant to extreme conditions of light, temperature, humidity and more. M-DISC cannot be overwritten, erased or corrupted by natural processes. Best of all, it's compatible with any Blu-ray drive, so you can access your data anywhere, anytime.
The unique materials used in the M-DISC requires a new disc drive technology to engrave data permanently. The M-DISC and the M-DISC Duplicator have been designed and optimized to work as one to etch data into the permanent synthetic stone layers within the M-DISC.
Archival-quality Blu-rays are known to randomly fail leading to permanent data loss. The major failure mechanism is rooted within the data layer, the very core of recordable Blu-ray technology. This layer consists of organic dyes that are chemically altered when data is written. Information is "burned" into the disc by creating light or bleached spots. The data is the contrast between light and dark spots. However, the dark spots fade over time, nullifying the burning process. This is why natural processes corrupt the data on the Blu-ray in just a few short years. The National Archives warns that the shelf life of a regular Blu-ray is only 2-5 years.
The M-DISC is constructed of inorganic, synthetic materials that preserve data forever. These materials cannot be overwritten, erased, or corrupted by natural processes. It is as if data were etched in "stone".
In addition to preserving data permanently, the M-DISC is designed to be backward compatible with standard Blu-ray players. Once data is store on the M-DISC it is readily accessible using a common Blu-ray players.
